Welcome to Kip4GCY – a site dedicated to the making of a Global Citizen. I am Sarah “Kip” McMillan, a recent graduate of Raleigh Charter High School. Read more about me on my Who is Kip? page.

Over the course of the next year I will embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey of world service and self-discovery. On August 19 I will leave my home, family, friends and country for a year of outreach, apprenticeship, leadership training, and world-view enrichment in Ecuador (a small developing country in South America, for the geographically challenged :-)). I will be living with a host family, immersed in a foreign culture, as one of about 100 Global Citizen Year Fellows selected from across the country for a “bridge” year between high school and college. I will spend the year in Ecuador in public health service, very much in line with my passion for changing the world, and my compassion for every human being.

I also have an ambitious fund raising goal to support this year of service and leadership training. Please support me as you can – every little bit is needed and appreciated. See the Donate to Kip4GCY button in the left margin or click here to make a donation. This journey would not be possible without the support of many caring people… thank you!

On this blog site, I will write about this experience, reflect on what it means, post photos and videos, and keep in touch with everyone “back home” during the year. It would be great if you would subscribe to this blog, drop me an occasional note, and support me in this  very challenging year ahead (see the Follow Me via Email section in the right margin).

Here is my travel schedule:

Aug 19, 2012 – Depart for San Francisco for training
Aug 29, 2012 – Depart for Ecuador
April 14, 2013 – Return to San Francisco for re-entry training
April 20, 2013 – Return to Raleigh

Thank you for your support!
